Subject:What am I doing wrong?
Posted By: Martha Tue, Mar 27, 2018 IP: 73.22.92.47

I posted the following message a couple of times, and have received no response. Is this because I have done something wrong, because no one has any info for me, or because it is simply an uninteresting post? Please help!

Can anyone help me with this vase? My mother-in-law always referred to it as The Hundred-Year-Old Chinese Vase -- and that was 50 years ago. Other than that, I don't know anything about it. Any information (maybe value?) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I think this is a very nice Chinese vase. It appears to be in the Guan style, very hard to date this type of ware. My best guess is it is 19th century piece.

Hello Martha
I don't think you've done anything wrong.
Your post is interesting.
Although the wealth of expertise here is "jaw dropping", there is always the possibility that the person who might know hasn't signed in for a while or the rest are unsure. I haven't a clue, (per my level of knowledge). Try posting to the forum rather than to the message board. There is usually more activity there. Best wishes David

I think these "crackle glaze vases with iron brown relief decoration" were made for export, possibly in the Shiwan kilns in Guangdong province, near modern day Guangzhou (Canton). They seem to date from the very late Qing dynasty into the Republic period. I've seen similar vases listed recently on Ebay.
