Subject:'Old Chinese'? title? and artist? for painting on silk
Posted By: Chris Sat, Apr 28, 2018 IP: 81.110.84.32

In my hunt for affordable art I come across quite a few Chinese silk paintings, many of which I suspect are relatively new and for tourist market but I wasn't sure about the attached picture.
Could anyone kindly translate what I suspect is a title/poem? and artist's stamp please?

Many thanks for looking.

Here's a slightly better image:

Good question. I'm leaning toward Republic. The colors aren't particularly appealing to me but this looks like a well executed picture by someone with good handwriting who is using the name 鳯子. Can you get a clear closeup of the seal?

Thanks Rat, here's a better close up of seal.
I agree on the colours but suspect they've faded somewhat.

The seal gives the surname Zhao 趙; the signed Fengzi 鳯子 is most likely a sobriquet/art name. I can check the standard reference book on this but suspect that identifying this artist (possibly female) will be a challenge. To me though the painting and calligraphy both show quite good brushwork.

Feng Zikai is this: 丰子恺/豐子愷, where Feng was his surname and Zikai his given name. Stylistically unrelated.

Many thanks Rat and yes please if you could check your reference book I'd be extremely grateful.
As to my naive optimism about Feng Zi being a contraction of Feng Zikai.. forgive me! 'Hope springs eternal' as they say !! :-)

No problem!
I had forgotten about this, sorry, but don't see anyone with this nickname in standard reference of artists' names, or anyone with the 鳯 character in their art name who is also surnamed Zhao 趙. It may be quite hard to track this person down.

Rat, could it possibly be by Feng Zi Kai?
