Subject:Soapstone (?) Pigs Markings
Posted By: Chris Sun, May 06, 2018 IP: 81.110.84.32

Not everyone's favourite animal but this carving really appealed. Age unknown but stamps and scratched markings to base - Material cold to the touch but the fact it can be scratched by a steel blade rather led me to believe it's not jade..

Very grateful for any advice on the markings as always - Many thanks to Rat for previous postings.

I have done some image Googling and found a v similar piece that claimed to be 19th century:

I have yet to be convinced that it's that old but identifying artist and seals would help... anyone? Pretty please? :-)

With soapstone, because it is so easy to carve, one cannot prove it to be old or ancient.
Sorry about that.
