Subject:Jadeite Bi pendant with gold clasp marked DUNG
Posted By: TimG Tue, Jun 19, 2018 IP: 73.224.85.64

I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with a Chinese or Vietnamese jewelry maker by the name of DUNG, or if the mark is known to anyone.

I bought this jadeite pendant, mainly because of its size (50 mm diamter which appears to be twice the size of most of this bi style pendants).

I paid only what I think the gold in the clasp is worth, so no worries.

I don't know enough about jadeite to know if it has been treated. Some advice would be helpful before I spend $ on having it tested.

Thank you.
Tim G

I doubt that this is a natural color.
my best advise is the find a jeweler who deals in Jadeite jewelry. Offer your piece for sale, and see the reaction.
Pls.let us know the outcome

hello there,

This a chrysoprase quartz "bi" shape pendant, chrysoprase quartz is often sold as jade all around China and South East Asia. It is much cheaper than green jadeite and looks very similar to untrained eyes...

Color is natural, mineral structure (black inclusions and homogeneity) is characteristic ... Chrysoprase quartz has been used as green jadeite substitute for long time.

Ah! That makes sense. Thx!
The graininess was curious to me... I thought maybe this was due to bleaching, but your explanation makes perfect sense. Quartz.
Very much appreciated!

yeah, I agree with you...it looks suspicious, but I was hoping someone recognized the name DUNG.
Perhaps it is a brand of costume jewelry in Asia.

Mason Kay offers a test...Does the test they offer hold merit among jade experts?

Jade test would be wrong in this case, if it is quartz, it is harder than Jade.
