Subject:Unusual painting
Posted By: Andrea Wed, Nov 07, 2018 IP: 95.250.30.40

I am very intrigued by this painting, for its composition and colors. The fabric of the montage and the bottom seem quite old. Unfortunately, the seal is illegible. Can someone give me some information? is it Japanese or Chinese? is the signature known? in what years may have been painted? Thanks in advance for any help,
Andrea

It is Chinese,
Signature reads,
橆名 variant of 無名 - Moming (Wuming) - Courtesy name of the Qing Dynasty painter;
陳字 - Chen Zi 1634-1713
Painter from Zhuji, Zhejiang. Was good in landscape, figure and flower painting.

With regards,

Correction,
I just found this signature accidentally in a Japanese signature and seal dictionary. It reads "Arina" 無名
(No Name) and was one of the synonyms used by the Japanese painter Ikeno Taiga.
Ikeno Taiga 池大雅 1723-1776 - one of the most famous painters of Bunryu-ga, the Japanese scholarly painting, inspired by the paintings of Chinese scholars.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you very much for the correction, Mr. Nagy. In fact, looking on the net, I found other paintings by Ikeno Taiga signed 無名; like this: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/18256/lot/2147/
Thanks again for your essential help,
Andrea
