Hello,
I would be immensely grateful if someone would be able to tell me something about the markings on a paintings I have. Has been in the family for decades and would like to know more about it.
Thanks so much!

It is difficult to make out the seals but the character you showed translates roughly as "painted by." While I'm no expert, the script looks remarkably like of Wang Hui, a renowned painter who lived from 1632 to 1717 and transitioned both the Ming and Qing Dynasties. I have three of his scrolls but they are on paper.

Thank you, Selby. It's exciting to be discovering this for the first time! :)

The inscription is the title,
雅光 - Yaguang ― Excellent scenery
Unfortunately I can`t read the seals.
The second seal could be abstracted 樵 - Woodcutter -
used in pseudonyms.

With regards,
I.Nagy
