Subject:can anyone translate the signature and seal on screen?
Posted By: Claudia Sat, Jan 26, 2019 IP: 2601:681:527f:d790:f

I would like to know the country of origin and artist's name on this screen, if possible. I am hoping the red seal mark is not too faded to decipher. I would appreciate any input. Thank you.

Wait , are you saying the French gentleman who just received the Huilin prize at Beijing Normal University painted my screen? Holy cow this is getting very interesting! Am I understanding this correctly? The article I read said he was a teacher/scholar/intellect. How did I end up with the painting of a French scholar? I shall await further clarification. Thank you!

Hi Claudia,

Did you eventually find out more about the silk painting?
I have a work by the same artist, so am very interested to hear from you. Thank you.

Kind Regards,
Glen Hosking.

Dear Claudia,
The Demai 徳邁 name is not a Chinese name. it is the transcription of "dermeersch" preceded by Wang 汪 for
Van. This name was coined and given to him by Li Zhihua 李治華 the French language translator of the Chinese literary masterpiece "Dream of the Red Chamber"
He has written books and articles on Chinese painting and calligraphy (bone script was one of his specialty)
I have read somewhere that he used to learn Chinese painting too. There is a possibility that the screen painting is from him - or from an impostor. In China everything is possible.

With regards,
I.Nagy
