Signature,
尚文 - Shōbun - Art-name
Seal,
武郎 - Takerō

Sasaki Takerō 佐々木武郎 1890-1970
Born in Ōnomura, Gifu prefecture. First he worked as porcelain decorator in Tajimi, then moved to Tokyo and studied under Kawai Gyokudō.
Was member of Japan Artists' Association. Participated Teiten,Shin-bunten and Nitten exhibitions. After the war he settled to Nagano prefecture.

The katakana script on the back ショーキ Shōki (鍾馗)is the title of painting, in Chinese Zhong Kui, the vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings,i.e. not a samurai.

With regards,
I.Nagy
