Subject:Help with translation of Asian characters on Sugi wood Japanese bucket
Posted By: Katherine H Tue, Aug 27, 2019 IP: 2600:1004:b020:9783:

Again asking for help with translation; this time on a sugi wood ikebana bucket. It's approx. 9 1/2" tall. Not sure of age, but thought maybe the characters could give a hint about maker or origin.
Thanks for any help!

Katherine h
PS..sorry about flipped photos...I have them upright when posting and they continue to flip in preview.

Not knowing much about Japanese art I may be way off but these are the given names of a man and woman, so perhaps this was a wedding gift with some traditional meaning I'm unaware of.

the characters are 吉男 (Yoshio, the man) and セツ子 (Setsuko, the woman)

The inscriptions are simply two given names, man and woman.
吉男 - Yoshio
セツ子 - Setsuko

With regards,
I.Nagy
