Subject:Japanese Painting Silk chipmunk
Posted By: Richard Tue, Oct 08, 2019 IP: 47.199.177.199

During WW2 my father was stationed in Japan. He sent this art home. It was always believed to be painted on silk. I'm looking for any information regarding the art and artist. Frame was added in US and hung in our home since I was a child. Thank you!

Similar paintings were sold in numerous kiosks on the Ginza in Tokyo after the war and through the '50s. They were ideal souvenirs for service people because the were attractive and could be rolled up and carried easily. The artists were paid per piece and turned out great quantities daily. I still have some purchased in 1952 on the Ginza.
