Subject:blanc de chine
Posted By: nrl Thu, Nov 21, 2019 IP: 2a02:c7f:120b:200:54

Hello
Can anyone tell me about this chap. He is marked but it is so poorly impressed I can't make it out.
He is about 6 inches tall and the detail is brilliant.
To be honest I don't think the mark is clear enough but someone may have seen something like it.

Yes, the mark is hard to read in its totality. However, some is clear.

The first two characters are Hua Feng 華峰, which is the name of a town or district in DeHua, Fujian province, where this blanc-de-chine ceramics are made.

The third character is less clear. I could be either 欲 or 歆, these are the only two characters I could find under the 欠 radical that approximated what I could see in the mark.

The last character clearly has 周 as the left hand element, but the right hand element, which is probably a radical is too diffused for me to try to determine.

Others may help decipher or recognise the mark.

At last, I have identified the last character - it is Diao 雕, meaning "to Carve" or possibly in this instance 'carved by".

Thank you that is amazing you can work any of it out. Would you know how old he is or is it impossible to tell.
