Subject:Bronze sculpture with marks, From which period?
Posted By: Harry Thu, Feb 20, 2020 IP: 125.163.144.54

Dear members,
I have this bronze sculpture. But i don't know about the markings and dating.
Please help me to know the meaning of the marking?
And in which period this was made?
Your opinion and information are greatly appreciated. Thank you
Best regards,
Harry

The mark, which appears to be from a secondary impression, reads "Qian long yu zhu" (乾隆御製}, "Made by Imperial Order, Qianlong Reign". Also the base exhibits evidence of reduction, probably by modern machine tools. This suggests that your otherwise attractive Chinese cast image of two animated players of Weiqi (圍棋), or "Go" in Japan, may be no older than the early-to-mid-20th century, the latter dating being apt if the rather pristine-looking stand is any indication.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Dear Bill,
Thank you for the valuable opinion and information. It's important for me, as a starting point for further research. At least i will look for references or images that are close to the same.
Other opinions and comments are very welcome.
Thank you, sincerely regards
