Subject:Stone / Jade (?) necklace
Posted By: Tony W. Mon, Mar 09, 2020 IP: 76.81.144.42

Dear friends,
Would you please help me to identify the material and possibly carving period of the central stone in this necklace, please? :) The two red pieces on the sides are red coral, I assume :)
It is my favorite and only piece of jewelry :))
Many thanks!!!

I really do not believe your center stone was made of jade, i.e. not made of either jadeite or nephrite. Also the brown color on it looks artificial, added to its surface to make it look "old". The carving on it, IMHO, is really not that outstanding and its jade material looks nothing like most of the authentic jade pendents that were usually made of high quality Hetin (Hotain) jade or other nice jade material commonly used for Chinese jade ornaments. Therefore, I really believe it was quite modern, possibly made of of some soft stone such as serpentine or what Chinese called xiu-yan jade (xi yu). Now of course since I am no jade expert and have not personally examined your jade piece, it is possible that your piece can be an archaic jade piece. The most important thing is if you truly enjoy it, that is all that counts. No disrespect intended. Super
