Subject:Chinese Blue and White Dish Signature
Posted By: Katie Smith Tue, Jul 14, 2020 IP: 80.225.174.110

Hello,

A friend has this little blue and white dish. It looks old and very beautiful, but only has a two-character mark. Does anyone know what this means?

Thank you

Based on info found online, your dish looks to be Japanese. Please see an eBay forum's dish and mark at the below link.

The cursive mark is a bit difficult for me to translate, as I haven't studied it formally. However, the mark possibly is 龍峰 "Ryuho" (りゅうほう) in Japanese and Long Feng in Mandarin Chinese, both literally meaning Dragon Peak. The mark on the eBay item adds the character 窯 "Yaki" in Japanese and "Yao" in Mandarin Chinese, both meaning "Kiln", which addition doesn't necessarily mean your dish isn't from the same maker.

Good luck,

Bill H.

The link didn't launch, so here it is to paste in your web browser:

I'll also try to link a photo.

Good luck,

Hi Bill,

This is so helpful, thanks! The characters do look the same.I will have a look for similar ones.
