Subject:Water dropper
Posted By: Tom Miller Sun, Aug 09, 2020 IP: 2604:2d80:e788:a00:c I believe this is a water dropper used for calligraphy but am not positive. I hope someone can verify if I am right or give me any other suggestions. Thank you for any help or leads. |

Posted By: Bill H Mon, Aug 10, 2020 I believe you're correct as to it being a water dropper, used I think in the mixing of ink on the ink stone. The reddish color of the glaze hints that it may be from the Shiwan kilns in the Guangzhou (old Canton) suburb of Foshan. It has the form of a pomegranate, which also is red when ripe. In fact there is a famous Shiwan glaze described as 'pomegranate red'. Possibly 19th-early 20th century. |

Posted By: Tom Miller Tue, Aug 11, 2020 Thank you so much for the information. I did a little research and it is very interesting. I got it from my father in law when he passed away 4-5 years ago and it's been on my dresser all that time. I always wondered about it but never tried to find out until recently. Thank you again. |
