Subject:Very unusual Chinese scene?? blue and white
Posted By: Rachael Thu, Aug 27, 2020 IP: 2601:6c4:380:68a0:50

I will really appreciate help.
It looks to me like an old Chinese plate with a very unusual scene (?)
What do you think this scene means? Is this Kangxi mark?

Does not look old. Not Ming. The foot and color is not correct.

Marking reads,
寅生佳器 - Yinsheng Fine Ware
Ming dynasty Jingdezhen product.

The scene is not usual, but if you Google up "Yinsheng porcelain" and click on "Images" you will find a very similarly painted plate owned by the British Museum. However, there is a slight difference in the bottom marking. The museum owned
one is marked 寅生佳製 "Finely made by Yinsheng", while your one is marked 寅生佳器 "Yinsheng Fine Ware". Perhaps G. Davidson's Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics would provide the answer, but unfortunately I don't have it. Let's hope that someone from the visitors to this Board will catch it up.

I.Nagy

The mark 'Yin sheng jia zhi' (寅生佳製) is No. 1563 in the Gerald Davison 'New & Revised Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics' as a Ming Tianqi (1621-1627) mark, translated literally as 'Beautifully made for a respectful life'.

Best regards,

I also found this auction info from 2018 with a somewhat similar dish marked 'Yin sheng jia jing' (寅生佳景), perhaps translatable literally as 'Beautiful prospect for a respectful life'. The piece has a diameter of 15.7cm and height of 2.6cm.

Thank you so very much everyone! That helped, but I am still wondering about the what does that scene might mean. Thanks again
