Subject:Re: Bowl
Posted By: Bill H Sun, Nov 22, 2020 The bowl has a motif of flowering plum or 'prunus' growing 'over the wall', as the pattern that spans the rim is called. On the base in blue is an artemisia leaf, a precious object of Daoist lore, that was used on some porcelains of the Kangxi reign (1662-1722). However, this bowl appears to have been new when purchased by your father. I'm unable to read some of the characters on the label, but this type of paper labeling was common in the mid-20th century. |

Posted By: grant heaton Sun, Nov 22, 2020 Thank you Bill. The stickers were put on when he brought them out of Hong Kong in the late 50s and have been been in boxes since 1960 I believe. They were given as gifts and marked "very old" a set of 2 bowls and 9 teacups. 60 yesrs to me is sometimes very old and they have been in boxes that long. It will be interesting to look further into what they are. Appreciate your help. |
