Subject:Identifying Vintage Chopsticks
Posted By: Sarah Mon, Dec 07, 2020 IP: 2603:6000:b243:6706:

I have a pair of (what I believe to be vintage) chopsticks and absolutely no idea what their worth. In fact, I know nothing about them except they are new in box with Asian writing on the label (I can’t identify the language). I found them in my grandma’’s storage after she passed away. I would really appreciate any information on their origin, year, writing translation, material they’re made of, etc.

Thank you so much!

Inscription says,
若狭塗 - Wakasanuri

Wakasa lacquer ware chopsticks are produced in Wakasa, Obama City, Fukui prefecture. It is said that the origin of this work was that in the early Edo period (17th c.) Abalone shells, egg shells, pine needles etc. are applied to its surface during the repeated lacquering and polishing process.

With regards,
I.Nagy
