Subject:Old Japanese Woodblock Print
Posted By: Greg K Tue, Apr 20, 2021 IP: 173.56.118.157 Hello, I ask your help to identify this old Japanese woodblock? print. It seems to be on a textured rice paper.I have viewed it under a jewelers loupe, and it appears to have some age. The frame window measures about 13" by 9". Thank you, as always for any insight.

Posted By: Stan Tue, Apr 20, 2021 Your print is by Utagawa Kunisada II and printed in 1864. It depicts Ch. 7, Momiji no ga, from the series Fifty-four Chapters of the False Genji (Nise Genji gojûyo jô).

Posted By: Stan Thu, Apr 22, 2021 I got my information at the link below. I guess you can't believe everything you read on the internet. You'll note that the attractive genji mon border is hidden by the mat and that the print is noticeably faded from being displayed.
