Subject:Unknown Japanese Vase
Posted By: Daryl Tue, Jan 04, 2022 IP: 88.105.204.73

Hello,
I have a Japanese lidded baluster vase.
I have tried hard to research it but I'm still not sure exactly what I have.
Please see the images shown including a clear, red square mark.
Thank you in advance for any help that you can offer to identify it.

It's a ko-Kutani style porcelain vase or jar. The original ko-Kutani wares were made in the 17th century in and around Arita in Northern Kyushu. The red enamel mark appears to be a variant of the Fuku (good luck) mark that can be found on the originals. Your jar is probably from the Meiji period or later.
