I have recently purchased a wonderful sumi ink drawing of a country road and would be very grateful if someone could identify/shed light on the artist.

weldone but seems to be the work of a person named Harris.
ハリス harisu says the seal.

Dear Peter thanks so much for the information. As always, your wisdom is highly appreciated. Do I understand you correctly that this may be done by a Western artist (named Harris) who uses a Japanese seal? Intriguingly, the artwork was purchased by its previous owner in Japan.

the seal with this name and the style (rather thinking this like a western water colour with a lot of brushstrokes and realistic shading) would suggest this to me. but ink and paper seem to be from Japan. But its well done.
There is a Federick Harris who could have done this:
