Subject:Horse Medal
Posted By: Charles Sat, Sep 10, 2022 IP: 71.112.198.32

Good evening, I recently got this medal with a horse on it at a yard sale. I did some research on it but couldn't find any that were the same. The biggest thing I've noticed is I can't find any with the same tail. I was wondering if anyone had any info on it or knows what the back says. Thank you for your time

This is a Korean Horse Warrant (Ma P`ae) for use of one saddle horse. Ma P`ae was a warrrant that permitted the use of government horses kept at post stations around the country upon presenting this special warrant such as this one.
Inscriptions on the medal (from right to left),
尚瑞院 - Sangseowon - Official Government Mint
天字號 一馬牌 - House of Cheon One Horse Warrant
雍正七年三月 - 7th Year of Yongzhen (1729) Third Month (March)
Seal,
尚瑞院印 - Seal of the Official Government Mint

With regards,
I.Nagy
