Subject:Inherited collection

Hi there, I am sorry if this message is not within the guidelines of the forum but I have many Asian antiques I have inherited and am looking to consign or sell them. I have no idea what the value may be but I assume many were obtained during a trip my great aunt took to China in 1909. There are paintings, figures, carving, etc. as well as a full diary and photo for provenance. The photo fields would not work for me but I could easily email them. I live in Michigan. Thank you for your time. -Derek Smith

The major auction houses, such as Sotheby's and Christie's will appraise such items for no charge, but only to the extent of opining whether the items meet minimum values that satisfy their sales requirements. Sotheby's minimum worth is $3000.00 I believe.

If you wish to submit photos to the forum, you can get responses as to what it is you have, its age and country of origin. While the forum does not provide value estimates, you probably can can use forum key words to search Google for values from past auctions of the major auctioneers and sites such as liveauctioneers.com. Just keep in mind, the latter site hosts many quite reliable auction sites but doesn't monitor the accuracy of their descriptions or those of the smaller local auction houses participating in these sales.

If you wish to download photos here, please first read the FAQ section at the top right of the message listing page for instructions regarding pertinent formats and size limits, then submit three pictures each in separate messages showing the side, top and base of your item.

Best regards,

Bill H.

I’ve tried a number of different programs to reduce image sizes for different forums including emailing them to myself and non of them met my needs of being simple to use until I downloaded “Image Size” from the Apple App Store. I liked it so much I paid to get rid of the adds.
