Hi I would be grateful for any and all comments on this statue. Thanks in advance. Please excuse my poor photography skills.

My guess would be that this is a Chinese Buddhist bronze dating to around the 17th century perhaps...

Mike,

Thanks for your response. The image is holding a round sphere in her hand. I have been unable to identify who this statue represents.

What makes you think it is 17th century?

Thanks.

The bronze is probably a bodhisattava, possibly Avalokitesvara (the Chinese Kuan Yin) who is often represented holding a wish fulfilling jewel in many of his numerious forms.

The bronze looks late Ming/early Qing in style to me, it looks genuine enough with all the flaking red laquer which I've yet to see on a modern Chinese fake. I've attached a pic of similar Ming bronze. The face on yours is a little different though, perhaps a slight Tibetan influence.

Mike

Thanks Mike. What would something like this sell for at market? Any ideas?
