Subject:Oil on linen painting
Posted By: Brian O\'Hagan Wed, Nov 01, 2006 IP: 12.103.110.194

I am trying to research an oil on linen painting that my grandfather brought back from Hong Kong in the 1950s, does anyone have a good starting point for me? The painting is of a couple of asian women on the beach with baskets of vegetables and fish.

Brian,

Why do you think that the painting is on linen? If it seems to be stretched and sized canvas, it is certainly cotton. You'd want a textile expert to evaluate the foundation if you have some reason to suspect linen.

Method of mounting (i.e. is it stretched on a wood frame) is one thing to look at.

Painterly style is another.

Visitors to this site could not give any advice on these subjects without photographs.

Best regards,
Judy

Judy,
i'm pretty sure it was linen, it was rolled up around a tube and then i had it framed...i will try to post a picture of it.

Brian
