Subject:Chinese sumi-e vintage painting
Posted By: Carla DiNucci Mon, Nov 06, 2006 IP: 66.178.133.85

This is a fairly large and very intricate Sumi-E painting. A japanese woman i know told me it is Chinese, not Japanese. Found it in an older square tube box covered in oriental print. I would be interested if the artist is known? I have included a picture of the signature, almost the whole painting (which is mounted on silk) and a closer picture of some of the detail. Would also like knowing The approximate age (oh and i wouldn't mind hearing about value if anyone knows). I have a couple of people offering to buy it. If I do decide to sell, i would like to be somewhat knowledgable about what i am selling. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

I have a new painting from China. It was done on the street in front of my friend. She told me it was all done with the artist's hands, not implements were used. Only the thumbs, palms, fingernails, etc. They are amazing...Yours looks similar, to mine, mine is all set in water though for the most part

This painting was done by someone with the family name Liu (top seal, left hand side). It appears to be dated the Spring of 2002, and says it was done in Beijing.
I can't see anything that would indicate that it is a finger painting (ie, not done with a brush but done with the hand).
