A very attractive piece. sometime referred to as paper mache, or dry lacquer. This one is relatively new, past 10 years, these are still being made in Northern Thailand and Myanmar (Burma).

Thanks Mike.
I bought this piece 5 years ago from a local asian art dealer. I like the piece because of the fine details and it project 3 different feeling of expression viewing buddha face 45 degree face above with stately look, 90 degree (as in the picture- kindly look) and 45 degree face from the bottom with respectful look. Is not an antique piece but was told that it papier mache made in the 70's in Myammar (Burma), is this consider a good art piece ? or just an ordinary common piece of handicraft ?

I would consider this to be a good art piece. Tyoical in style of what is being produced today, but it appears to be considerably better quality than most I see. As you say, not antique, but an especially nice piece.
