Subject:Old? Ceramic praying statue
Posted By: Tigerchips Thu, Jan 04, 2007 IP: 89.242.158.161

Hi, new here. I'm just wondering how old this figure is please? Also, if you have any other information on this piece it would be much appreciated.

I really haven't got a clue about oriental items.

It is six and a half inches high with a few chips here and there (sigh).

Tigerchips,

Judging by the smooth hole in base and rounded-off features in the sculpture (no crisp or sharp detail) this piece was slip-cast: a clay slip poured into a mold.

Look for mold marks that may have been smoothed, interrupting the design.

This indicates recent manufacture, but whether 2 years ago or 50 years ago, or where, I can't say.

Best regards,
Judy

Thanks.

There are two very faint lines on the sides of what she is sitting on but I can't see any lines on the inside.

The inside is not smooth, it's slightly bumpy. Does that mean it was pressed into a mould?

I also would like to know a litle more about this item , I'm sure I have seen something like this before , I don't know where or when but most likely on my cyber travels , if it is old then I may try and retrace my steps for a purchase , Dave.
