Subject:who can identify this object

hey,
I have some sort of box?, stand? made out of wood and have no clue at what it is or what it has been used for. dont have a clue about its age too. the front does come off but I'm not sure if its supposed to because well when it stands upright that "lid" will just fall down. it looks japanese, but not sure, maybe someone can identify the makers mark? any help will be appreciated and take a look at the pictures those tell more then a thousend words
