Subject:Ebony elephants
Posted By: Jim Fri, Feb 23, 2007 IP: 207.255.196.202

Hello,
One more I need help with identifying. This elephants crossing bridge is 17" across. All the tusks and feet are in tact. There is a repair in last picture to the right front leg. What would be the age and value of this piece and would I be correct stating it to be ebony with ivory tusks? Thanks again. Jim

Jim,

When item not well made almost no matter what materials. Rough carving, finish, coating. Little precise inly.

Could be what you say but can not tell by pictures.

Probably very recent. Break poor repair makes no market value. If you like it, to decorate.

Cal

I have two well carved ebony elephants with ivory tusks that are carved from a single piece of ebony and weigh at least five pounds a piece.

Tusks are ivory

Where could I obtain an estimate of value.

What distinguishes these envelopes from most is their weight.
