Subject:A couple of different items...
Posted By: Jason Sat, Mar 03, 2007 IP: 68.0.190.233

I have a chair that has been passed down and no one is quite sure how old it actually is or what it is worth... also an Ivory tusk of some kind. Any help from anyone here would be very much appreciated!

Pictures always help.

Are you sure the chair is Asian?

It has what resmbles an orintal style Lion on the top of the chair. The design is very oriental and has some coral and other stone inlays on it. I can try posting a link with my photobucket on it to view pics.

There is the link for the chair. There are other pics there as well. I have never seen anything like this before and would like to know what it is and possibly where it came from. Thank you very much!

The reason I ask is that "chairs" weren't widely used throughout the Far East.

You picture shows a rattan back and side panels?? Bamboo arms ?? Or is that all carved wood?

If I had to guess that is something made for the western trade, perhaps in China or India. But that's only a wild guess and I wouldn't have a clue as to age.

Doesn't look too comfortable, does it?
