Might anyone be able to offer an opinion on this piece? Age, value, general opinion of quality...

Looks more like modern plastic resin material. Do the hot needle test. Use a hot needle and poke the vase an a small obscure area. If it melts, then it's plastic resin. Then the vase is a modern decorative item of limited value.

Any variation in your opinion if it were ivory (which on testing as you suggested it seems to be).

seems ivory on the picture. but modern with only a decorative value
