Does anyone know what this pot is or who made it?

Looks to me very contemporary Japanese studio ware. The signature (which is upside down in the photograph) is a stylised monogram, of which part looks like it could be the character for hand. But I'm still trying to work it out.
As far as what the bowl is designed to be used for, some indication of dimensions would be helpful. Often bowls with spouts are used in the sencha tea ceremony to adjust the heat of the water before additing it to the tea leaves. But this bowl looks too shallow for that.

Thanks for getting back to me Mike,
The dimensions are : height: 5cm. diameter: 20cm.
The underside does not have a foot so it has a gently rounded bottom.
I've included a right side up image for you.
