Subject:Chinese vase

My wife bought this vase at an estate sale, we were wondering about the history of it and about how old it might be, as well if it may be valuable? Any information would be much appreciated.

Sorry Jerry, but this vase is not ancient, or I suggest particularly valuable. The mark on the bottom says that the vase was made in the period of the Qian Long emperor, but it wasn't. If you look at the pattern of the decoration along the top and bottom of the vase, you will see the breaks in the design which indicate that this was a transfer, not hand painted. Similarly, the black lines of the cattle are in high relief, so they too were applied with a transfer.
The painting "Five Cattle Painting" is a famous painting of the Qing dynasty, and the seals indiate that the painting was in the Imperial collection. Part of the text explains that the five cattle represent the five directions of Chinese philosophy - East, South, West, North and centre.
Enjoy it as an ornament - use it as a vase.

About five years old, I'd say. The calligraphy is even printed!
