Subject:Looking for info reg. 17th century Thai statue with original burial ashes

I had this piece evaluated in New York City over 20 years by an asian art specialist in a gallery who gave me the only info that I have about it. Unfortunately I didn't get a better history about the piece. He did say though, that the ashes would have been of a female and possibly of some level of nobility because the statue is that of a female. I don't recall what type of metal was used in making it though. "Sheba", (named by my son), has been in my family for approximately 125 years. The specialist in NYC confirmed it's age as being from the 1600's and that human cremated ashes do in fact exist inside of the statue. I, in my curiosity, have seen them as well. What I don't know is what it's called, why they exist and basically the history about it. If anyone can give me some information about this "family heirloom", I would greatly appreciate it.
