Hi,
My father got an etching made in 1930 from an original by Hokusai. It's not his type of art so we are a bit suspisious about whats writen on the back. It says "24 000 kr" which is about 2 300 . What do you think about it? What is the lady doing? Whats written on it?

Thanks!

Hi Johan,

Your print depicts the station "Kusatsu", from an untitled series of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tkaid Road. Your reprint is no etching but probably a true woodblock print.

For an example of the first edition, ca 1804 (with poems) see the link to the MFA Boston collection below.

Guy.
