Subject:Chinese porcelain "vase"
Posted By: Amos Omondi Wed, Jun 13, 2007 This appears to be a fairly recent piece made to look old. I have spent time in China, Hong Kong, and Singapore looking for and purchasing Chinese porcelain. Finding anything genuinely antique is near impossible, and, if you do, the prices won't be very different from what you would pay elsewhere. There are, however, many fakes, some of them very well done, to be found. Just don't pay too much. |

Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Wed, Jun 13, 2007 that is the problem with languages. What the shopkeeper told you was that he was old, not the vase !!! |

Posted By: James Wed, Jun 13, 2007 Thanks for the replies. I realize that almost all "antiques" in these shops in China are reproductions ("fakes"), and though I liked this jar I was skeptical about its age. I picked up a couple of other doucai porcelain pieces that appear to have a Qianlong mark. I suppose that they are also most likely to be modern reproductions but I'll post them in any case when I have time to see what others think. In my opinion they are quite nice. |
