Subject:how to let people know about stuff?
Posted By: john stockton Sun, Jul 29, 2007 IP: 220.231.179.52

Dear Forum,
I have a friend in Hong Kong, an old chinese man.
He was collector of chinese art and now he would to sell some of his things to others. He asked me to help him to make a website where he could put the pictures of his porcelain. I would probably do it but I have no idea how I could promote the website, moderators here do not allow to promote any commercial sites.
Do you have any ideas how I could let other people know about the website without putiing spam or other bad things?
thank you
john

John
It would be nice to find out how you met this nice elderly gent from Hong Kong.To put it bluntly, why would he want you to help him selling his collection, when there are thousands of buyers in Hong Kong. Are those buyers too knowledgeable , and wont fall for those copies/fakes. I may be wrong in my assumption, but I have heard this story too often. BEWARE !!

I appreciate your answer.
this man is too old for deceiving the people, besides he is not poor at all.
he is not in that society that sells and buys, from his words all his items were purchased long time ago.
You mentioned about thousand of buyers, I know there is a big market in hk, but how to find them, just ask the people on Hollywood road: "Mister, Do you want to buy this ?"

I don't think age has to do with anything. I have enough first hand experience with nice old ladies and gents trying to rip me off. There are many stores who buy and sell antiques. Also, if that chap has family members, they can listen around. As he is not poor, he can put an advertisement in the local papers. There are several auction houses which can be approached. I hope that you are listening, and perhaps some other experts in this forum can give you advise. I can see that you like to help, which is nice, and that is something some people take advantage off.
One thing comes to mind...get quality pictures of the different items, install them in this forum and see if they are what that nice elderly gentleman claims. Perhaps put them in the Main Forum. First you will find the truth, and secondly, if those items are real, some people may just approach you privately to find out if you sell.

Please note we will not post pictures of things being offered for sale. You can post pictures in another thread to find out information about what the objects are.
