Subject:Early 19th Century Vietnamese Photographs
Posted By: Sheppard Ferguson Thu, Nov 15, 2007 IP: 118.71.249.165

I am interested in early Vietnamese photography or photographs of Vietnam. Specifically, anything made by photographers traveling through in the1850s or 60s or any Vietnamese photographers or studios (as opposed to French) working from 1840 - 1900.

I am looking for archives, collections, etc.

Try www.postcardman.net. They have old, original, photographs from Vietnam and other Asian countries.

I have several old photos from Vietnam and Cambodia, purchased from the daughter of of an old-time photographer who had a studio on Don Koi street in Saigon. I can e-mail scans if you want.

Thanks for the reply. I will check it. However, it appears that the roughly 20,000 postcards made by a half dozen companies between 1900 and 1929 are all that really remain. And most of those are by French photogs. working between 1885 and 1920. There is a lot of useful information in those documents. However, I am looking for the original photos, either prints, negatives, glass plates, etc.
Regards,
Sheppard Ferguson
