Subject:Royal Jade Seal?
Posted By: Ed Lee Tue, Nov 20, 2007 IP: 76.88.170.28

I'm trying to determine if this Seal is ancient and if it is of Chinese or Korean origin. Seals with turtle body and head of dragon design was used by Kings / Emperors but I'm not sure if this one is authentic. Any opinion is appreciated.

This is a dragon turtle. In my opinion, looking at the dragon head, the carving is not fine enough to have great age.The material should be of much higher quality to have been used by royalty.

Ed,

Excellent craftsmanship on this turtle!!!
Though the jade material used would be to inferior to be presented to a royal or high ranking person. Also the carvings on the seal appear to have been done after the material had developed cracking. Though hopefully someone can decipher those carvings.

Jim
