Subject:antique chinese table screens - alabaster or jade????

I have a set of 8 very old chinese table screens. They measure 20" high by 7" wide. They are framed with wood and are hand painted of a wedding type scene. The material they are painted on I was told was alabaster, but I think it might be jade.
My question is; did the Chinese use alabaster for this purpose or at all?, I cannot find anything chinese made out of alabaster online.
