Subject:Vase. What is the mark on the bottom?
Posted By: Deborah Thu, Dec 13, 2007 IP: 70.183.10.244

Hello, Can anyone tell me anything about this vase? It is quite large! Looks to me like it is Japanese, but I am not sure. I don't know how old it could be either. The mark on the bottom is just a symbol. However it also appears at one time to have been marked but has completely faded other than an indication of its present. Also I see to marks like pottery marks, indentations on the bottom. What could those be and do they indicate anything about how old the piece is? If anyone can give me any ideas on anything about it, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I should have mentioned that on the handles of this vase there are dog faces on each side. At least I think they are dogs!

Can't read mark from your photo.

Vase made possibly early as 1920s or as late as 1980s, could have had sticker for country made. Mass produced for western market.

Good luck,
Cal

Yes the mark can't be read at all, but I was wondering about the purple mark on the bottom the japanese/chinese symbol. The other mark done in black is completely worn off. At least I have a date now. Thanks for your information.
