Subject:over 1000 year old red clay pair of plates
Posted By: sandy Mon, Dec 17, 2007 IP: 68.206.147.229

Hello.
I purchased two plates which I was told they were chinese. I have no clue as to the validity of this statement. But I would appreciate if someone can view them and kind of give me some history on them and value if any. They are made of red clay and are in mint condition, no cracks. Your help is truly appreciated...............

Sandy,

No way to tell where made unless pay for very specific analyzing mineral content. Red (iron-bearing) (ferruginous) clay all over world.

No way to tell age by reliable thermoluminescence test because such items often not completely fired or vitrified.

'Mint condition' for such pieces could suggest very recent made. Such things chip, scratch easy.

Good luck,
Cal

Thank you for your reply. I don't even have as a clue to begin determining the who's ,where's, what about this plates. They seem to be like age deteriorated from the bottom and somewhat delicate. They have like worn out discoloration. Moments like this I wish I were more familiarized with such materials. Thank you so much anyway...Really do appreciate your input....take care
