Subject:Help reading a shop label on a Chinese porcelain vase
Posted By: judy Mon, Dec 24, 2007 IP: 69.143.213.246 Hello, I got this vase in great shape at an estate sale where there were quite a few very fine things. I can read the chop as Daqing qianlong nian zhi, but am not sure even by using the gotheborg website what year this is likely from or how to describe the style. I thought the "shop label" might help but I am having trouble reading it. Can someone please help? This isn't quite my taste and I want to sell it but need more information. It is about 9 1/2 inches tall. |

Posted By: judy Wed, Dec 26, 2007 Thanks, pyro -- how can I describe this style? The textured quality in the blue, and the paintings within the white? Still looking for a reading on the shop label, too! Thanks very much.... |

Posted By: PyroManiac Thu, Dec 27, 2007 The painting with the bird on a branch with a white back ground is known as "fencai" and the blue area with texture is a decorative technique known as graviata ground or in Chinese "feng Wei Wen" which translate to phoenix tail design. |

Posted By: judy Fri, Dec 28, 2007 Another question: I have been reading about graviata ground, and it seems to be a kind of enamel treatment. Is it correct to call my vase porcelain or is it enamel??? Thank you so much for all your help. |
