Subject:Unknown figure
Posted By: Peter Wed, Jan 23, 2008 IP: 65.96.92.43 I received this figure as a housewarming gift and am at a lost for any information about it. It was acquired from a consignment shop. The figure is cast metal and is 17" tall including the base. Any info regarding who or what is represented will be appreciated. |

Posted By: Michael Mon, Jan 28, 2008 Your figure represents a Japanese Sambaso dancer. The dance is traditionally performed by boy dancers before certain Noh plays and as a prelude to the comic theatre, Kyogen. The boy wears a detachable mask of an old man,No Okma. |

Posted By: James Wilson Tue, Jul 08, 2008 Hello, this piece seems to me to be a statue depicting a Noh Theatre actor wearing an Okina mask. I have a modest collection of Noh theatre masks. I have attached a photo of my Okina mask for you to compare. I hope this helps. |
