Subject:Mysterious drum stick?
Posted By: Claude de Sainteville Mon, Feb 04, 2008 IP: 58.8.5.118

Dear antique lovers;
This is another discovery I recently made in Cambodia. A peasant sold me this surprising piece of metal on which extremity you can see a piece of iron wood which has been inserted to the stick. He told me it was used in the past as a drum stick in a temple. Any other idea? How old do you think it is? I find this piece extremely beautiful. Too beautiful to have been recently made for sure.Dimensions: 34,7 cm long and 2,6 cm thick. Weight: 583 grams.

Dear Claude

I do not think that brass stick will be used as drum beater of leather drum and bronze frog drum, the drums will be broken. It may be a bell beater.

I think it is possibly used for rolling skein of hair silk.

Cambodian silk art is very delicate and beautiful.

Have fun

Dear Claude

That stick must come in pair, in order to roll the silk skein must use to hands with 2 sticks.
