This print along with 2 others, (identified as two of Hiroshige's One Hundred Famous Views of Edo)were given to my grandmother by a collage classmate from Japan.

Randy,

This print is 20th century which is not my area of interest. Someone else will identify it for you. Can you post pictures of the Hiroshige prints? I'd be interested to see them.

Cheers,
Stan

That print was designed by Ito Takashi, originally published by Watanabe in 1929. The title is "Yasaka after Snow, Kyoto". Your copy appears to have suffered from light exposure and perhaps an unfriendly mounting over the years. Click on the link below for a scan of a print in pristine condition.

This is a woodblock print titled "Yasaka Shrine After Snowfall, Kyoto" by the Japanese 'Shin hanga' artist Takashi Ito (1894-1982) originally published in 1929 but republished during the 1940s and 50s. Your print is probably one of these later reissues.

The print should be removed from the matting that covers the left margin. You could contact Ukiyo-e Gallery (see website) to get more professional info about your print.

Guy.
