Subject:13th century burial urn
Posted By: Kathryn Tue, May 27, 2008 IP: 68.113.59.2

I have a 13th century chinese burial urn given to my grandfather in the 40's for service to China when he was employed by the Foreign Service. I am trying to find out what it is worth but do not know who to contact. Can anybody point me in the right direction.

Try posting some good sized clear images of the urn here. We can usually get a good idea of the possible age and origin. Value is rather tricky as value changes from one person to another and even location.

Hello Kathryn,

Could you post a photo of the urn please?
There were 4 different dynasties during the 13th century: Southern Song, Western Xia, Jin and Yuan.
From which one does your urn belongs to?

Hi Kathryn,

Ok, this is a Song dynasty urn.
They comes in a pair, with lid.
If you have only 1 pot, without lid, the value is not so great, maybe a couple of 200$ or so.
Best regards,
Pierre.
