Subject:Asian art appraiser needed!
Posted By: Gretchen Morris Mon, Aug 25, 2008 IP: 24.20.228.118

I am looking for an experienced and qualified appraiser to appraise many items of Asian art and furniture which have been in our family for more than seventy years. The items are primarily Chinese furniture, dishes, scrolls, budhas and ivory carvings. We also have several Korean chests. We are not currently planning on selling any of these things but we have realized that it is time to get a good idea of exactly what we own.

All of the items are located in three homes in Oregon two in Corvallis and one in Beaverton (west of Portland).

Can anyone recommend one or more appraisers in this subject area? I realize that we will probably have to arrange for someone to come to our local for several days, so that travel expenses will be added to the appraisal fee.

Thank you for whatever assistance you can provide.

You can get an email (auction estimate) appraisal from an auction house. See their websites. Pick one with a good Asian art department. Obviously, since the art and the appraiser aren't in the same room, they are worth the paper they are written on. If you just want an idea of what you own, this may suffice.

Cheers,
Stan

Hi Gretchen,

If you email me or give me a number I can give you the name of a company in the San Francisco Bay Area that has a lot of expertise with Japanese, Chinese and Korean objects like you described.

Tim

Thanks, but we've connected with Bonham and Butterfields. I think they will fill the bill for us.
