If you are talking about a *reign mark* of the Qianlong Emperor, in seal form, some varieties were illustrated in a recent issue of Arts of Asia Magazine. If you go to their web site you should be able to find the issue. I think about a year ago. Some from a Chinese publication have also been posted on this forum within the past two years.

From your question, you must know that the reign mark has been used millions of times on ceramics and other items, such as snuff bottles, that were not made during that reign.

Since Chinese and other fakers are getting more expert all the time, it is hazardous to use such a mark as the main guide to authenticity.

One can learn much more from the style, material, workmanship and design details of the object itself. To a lesser extent, completely reliable provenance can also be helpful.

But do not trust the attribution or alleged history given by an auction house that has a financial interest in their attribution. They may repeat a client's "story" that was invented at some time. Even those that supposedly guarantee their word can cost you years and much money to prove an attribution to be fraudulent, and a refund of auction sale price may recover only a small part of your costs.

Good luck,
Cal

This may help. Most were found on jade pieces but the one found on books were also commonly seen on ceramic pieces. All of them had QianLong's reign mark.

there are literally hundreds of genuine Qianlong seals, not to mention all of the myriad faked and imitated versions. Sources of Qianlong marks on ceramics are already noted, there are also collections of the emperor's seals in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan. Seals impressed upon paintings and calligraphy can most easily be seen by looking up scrolls in museum collections that have good online photos of their holdings; the books that have life sized impressions of these seals are fairly specialized, but you can see some of the main ones in Sotheby/Christies auction catalogs from recent years.

Several auctions of Qianlong seals have also taken place.
